Summer is here and most of us are planning vacations, weekend getaways, or at least a day trip just to get away. Living here in Hernando County, we are fortunate to have such a variety of things to do, and at least one of those options will surely strike your fancy.
Our Adventure Coast offers horseback riding, motorcycle trails, zip-lining, kayaking, golfing, fishing, swimming, and nature walks. We are within a short drive of world-class beaches and amusement parks. You name it and we have it. The hardest part might be deciding where to go. But, fortunately, most of the trips are very affordable, so you don’t have to just choose one.
The Adventure Coast abounds with picturesque parks, lush nature preserves, and historic Old-Florida locations that attract people from all over the country. From mermaids to snow parks, sunflower fields to u-pick farms, gulf shores to pine tree forests, there are so many things to do right in our own backyard that you may have to create more time to try them all.
Tips to Make the Most of Your Trip
- Do your research. Check hours of operation, safety protocols, and any rules for dress code. Be sure you have cash… just in case.
- Pack a go-bag. Include a sun hat or ball cap, sunscreen, bug spray, small first aid items, some waters, and a few snacks. Best practice – be prepared!
- Make the drive interesting. Play road sign games like “I spy” – anything fun to make the time fly.

These are just a few of my favorites. You can find many more on Florida’s Adventure Coast website. This website will provide you with a wealth of information on land adventures like riding, golfing, wineries, biking and birding, as well as water fun like fishing, paddling, and scalloping.
Alas, the list would not be complete without including Chinsegut Hill Retreat and Conference Center and Chinsegut Hill Historic Site. If you are looking to get away for the night, we have the perfect spot for your overnight stay, with cozy rooms and plenty of space to roam. Enjoy!
